Proverbs 4: 10 says -
“Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.”
Yes; What you hear will influence you. Hear faith, you’ll have faith and be faith-full for “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word (as Romans 10:17 said); Hear of fear and you’ll be full of fear and fear-full for “fear hath torment!” (1 John 4:18).
SO, HOW DO YOU HEAR?
Proverbs 19 verse 20 exhorts this -
“Hear counsel, and receive instruction, … …
What you hear and purpose to do, will determine how far you will go.
Remember we say: “Christ the wisdom of God, the power of God.”
So, God is telling you; hear from wisdom, and receive wisdom. The Scripture said: “Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings;” So, Purpose to walk with the word of God. Purpose to live your life in Christ just as Paul wrote to the Philippians, saying: “To live is Christ, to die is gain”.
And There is a profit that goes with receiving wisdom as that scripture Proverbs 4:10 says which is: “… and the years of thy life shall be many.”
Instruction that is based on the word of God, keeps you alive! Yes !! God prolongs life when you walk in obedience to His word. So Let God’s word be your necessary food!
Nothing can be compared to the wisdom that is from the word of God: so desire to have knowledge, rather than choice gold!
WHY? Proverbs 3:14 here explains -
So, desire to receive the sayings of wisdom, and purpose to do it.
Still, Proverbs 19 verse 20 exhorts this -
“Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.”
Which means - even in the latter end, you will also enjoy the benefit that you have laid your life on the foundation of the word of God.
“Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.” That’s the word of God. (Job 22:22)
So: to Receive the instruction of wisdom, receive the word of God, and lay it up in your heart; Meditate upon it, and Observe to do what the word of God says. That’s how you can have good success, and your way shall be made prosperous. That’s the Right influence from the wisdom of God and by the word of God!
To Wisdom’s benefits, Proverbs 3:2 further adds: “For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.” Wisdom gives length of days. It gives long life. It gives peace and prosperity. To prolong your days, listen, and walk with advice from godly parents, walk with the advice of godly men and women– people who are walking in the Fear of the Lord.
WHO ARE YOU HEARING FROM?
Deuteronomy 5:16 tells us this:
“Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”
Simply: Learn to honor and hear thy father and thy mother. Learn to honor and hear the wisdom of people who are walking in the authority of the word of God. Learn to respect elders, who are purposing to walk in the will of God, and who are also teaching others to walk in the will and wisdom of God. What you hear influences you; Who you hear from also influences you! When you honour such ones, you are already prolonging your years on this earth.
1 Timothy 4 verse 8 says this, -
“For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”
So, learn to exercise yourself unto wisdom. Exercise yourself unto godliness. Exercise yourself unto obedience to the word of God. Spend time to meditate upon the word of God. ….as you are hearing by the word of God. That’s how faith comes and is built “For faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word!”
WHAT YOU HEAR, DO!
Jesus said: “As I hear, I do.”
The sense of the wisdom of God, the word of God you have received will make you to order your conduct/conversations aright. When you receive the sayings of the word of God, and you meditate upon it, and you purpose to do it; you will not speak nor do and behave like the people in the world.
1 Peter chapter 3 verse 11: “Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek and peace, ensue it."
It’s when you receive the instruction of wisdom, that you can avoid evil. You will do good, you will seek peace, and you will ensue it because that’s what the word of God expects you to do.
And The scripture further encourages us in that 1 Peter 3 verse 12, saying :
“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”
Jesus said of Himself: “As I hear, I do.”
So, As you hear the word of God as a child of God, and you purpose to do what the word of is saying, the eyes of the Lord will always be over you, and His ears will always be opened unto your prayers.
Hear what is written in James 1:22-25 -
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does."
So, I encourage you today: “Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.” You want to live long life? You want to live life abundantly? You want to live life eternally? Hear the word of God, and do it.
That’s the Word of Wisdom for you today. And as you do it, remain blessed in Jesus’ name. Amen.
