“But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.” (Acts 5:1-2)
Brethren! Do you know that God of love is also the God of judgment?
Yes, He is! That is why we should not take Him for granted!
At times, God in His own sovereign authority allows judgment to come forth so that people will learn righteousness.
Know it that Satan will do everything for you to tempt God; but your duty is to resist him. Just the way Jesus resisted him when He was tempted.
Therefore: Don’t agree to do evil!
As husband and wife, you should be in a position to correct one another and to challenge one another in obedience to do the will of God. As well as the brethren.
Proverbs 15 verse 27 tells us expressly -
“He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; But he that hateth gifts shall live.”
Remember! Ananias with Sapphira his wife did not give from their hearts. The element of covetousness and greed was right in their hearts but they just wanted to show off; but you saw how they ended up.
So, this tells us that we don’t serve God by showing off.
You have to Serve God and worship Him in Spirit and in truth -For that is what He desires.
Therefore, be encouraged not to copy what you are not ready to do. You need to have that conviction in your heart before doing anything because no matter how somebody tries to cajole you into giving, you have to know that:
• Giving must be willing.
• Giving must be from your heart.
• Giving is not by compulsion.
Even as God has commanded us to give our tithes and offerings, it should also come from a willing heart.
For God blesses a cheerful giver!!
