Proverbs 14:13
“Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.”
People often times use laughter to cover the deep-seated sorrow they are going through. That is false happiness and which does not last. The end of that mirth (covering) is heaviness!
Have you seen (Men) sinners Like King Belshazzar of Daniel 5:1-6 who, being under convictions or some great trouble, trying to cover their grief with a false smile? And laughter? With merriment and feasting? … instead of facing the reality of their sin, in repentance to what their conscience is telling them?
That is hypocrisy; for real joy is seated in the soul! The joy of the hypocrite is just for a moment. It doesn’t last.
In Ecclesiastes 2:2 King Solomon said —
“I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?”
So, Laughter inorder to cover your grief and the sadness under it, is madness! The end of that mirth is “heaviness”!
Don’t cover your sins with feasting, or with pleasure. When conviction comes, repent! For It doesn’t matter what you engage in as cover, your iniquity will either find you out or be exposed.
Only the blood of Jesus covers sins!
And Hear what God told the people of Israel, in Hosea 9: 1 –
“Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every corn floor.”
So if you are a Child of God and the joy of your salvation has dried up, or you’re backslidden: Do Not rejoice with sin in your heart, nor in hypocrisy any more!
Repent and return to the LORD, so that your rejoicing will be genuine!!!
And if you have not known Jesus as Savior: Return to the LORD, so that you will be saved from the wrath to come.
Seek the true joy: the ever-lasting joy of the LORD, which is the believer’s strength. False happiness corrodes; and the joy of the hypocrite is for a moment!
Seek the true pleasures that come from doing what pleases God! And I tell you where to find this True Joy: Only in the Presence of God; for the Scripture says expressly in Psalm 16:11 – “ In His Presence is fullness of joy; and at His right hand are pleasures forevermore ”
And as you do this: Remain blessed!
