ATTENTION TO GOD’S WISDOM AND DISCRETION BRINGS REAL BENEFIT TO LIFE

PROVERBS 3:21-23

Verse 21: “My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:”

Verse 22: “So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.”

Verse 23: Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

Sound wisdom comes from the wisdom of God; wisdom that is from above.

So, it’s encouraging us here to continue in wisdom, to keep it, because it’s ‘life unto thy soul.’ And it will bring us to a place of favour.

ATTENTION TO GOD’S WISDOM AND DISCRETION BRINGS REAL BENEFIT TO LIFE

It’s in continuation of what it began to tell us in that Proverbs chapter 3 from verse 1. It said:

Verse 1: “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:”

Verse 2: “For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.”

So, it’s still an emphasis on the word of God; keeping the word of God, doing it, obeying what God has commanded us to do in His word. And as we do it, we will be in the place of life; life to thy soul, abundant life. And it will bring us in a place of finding favour.

That’s why the book of Joshua chapter 1 verse 8 encourages us, as a foundational principle of true prosperity and success in life.

In that Joshua chapter 1 verse 8, it says:

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

So, good success, prosperity is found in sound wisdom! In receiving the word of God, keeping it, meditating upon it, and purposing to do it. So, that’s the word of wisdom today for us.

ATTENTION TO GOD’S WISDOM AND DISCRETION BRINGS REAL BENEFIT TO LIFE

It says: “My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:” For “So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.”

As Jesus speaking, in the Gospel of John chapter 8 from verse 31:

Verse 31: “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;”

So, if you believe in what Jesus Christ did for you, if you believe in this wisdom that is from above; you need to continue in His word. It’s the continuation, it’s just not the believing only.

Continue in the wisdom of God. Keep it! Keep wisdom and discretion!! As Jesus said here: “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;”

Verse 32: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

It’s the continuation in the word of God, and doing it. That’s what it means for you to keep sound wisdom and discretion. So, you shall have life unto your soul, and grace to thy neck.

So, continue in the word of God; keep it, for it’s your life. If you abide in the word of God; you will remain.

HEAR THIS:

If you abide doing the word of God; you will ask whatever you desire according to the will of God, because you will not pray amiss. And you will remain, and you will be blessed.

That’s why in writing in the book of Hebrews chapter 2 verses 1-3 is an encouragement for us to keep sound wisdom and discretion. For it’s our life, and it brings grace to us.

ATTENTION TO GOD’S WISDOM AND DISCRETION BRINGS REAL BENEFIT TO LIFE

Hebrews chapter 2 from verse 1, it says:

Verse 1: “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.”

So, keep sound wisdom! Don’t let them slip. Keep discretion; don’t let them slip.

We continue in that Hebrews chapter 2 verse 2, it says:

Verse 2: “For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;”

Verse 3: “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;”

So, we must learn to keep sound wisdom and discretion. For it is thy life; life to thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

As we also can see in 1st Epistle of John chapter 2 verse 24:

Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.”

So, if you keep sound wisdom and discretion, you shall abide in life. “My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: ” That’s the word of wisdom for you today! “So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.”

See what Moses did tell to the people of Israel, in Deuteronomy 32 from verse 46:

Verse 46: “And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.”

Verse 47: “For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.”

So, it’s your life and your prosperity. Sound wisdom and discretion, when you keep it, and walk in it; it gives you life.

As the book of Proverbs chapter 4:22 tells us:

“For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”

ATTENTION TO GOD’S WISDOM AND DISCRETION BRINGS REAL BENEFIT TO LIFE

The word of God is word of life. Of course the word of God is the wisdom of God; and it’s life. Life is found in the word of God; in receiving and keeping it. That’s doing it.

As John chapter 8 verse 12 tells us:

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

So, the light of life is in the wisdom of God. It’s from the light of the Gospel that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ gave to us. ‘And this is eternal life, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.’

Have you known Christ? He’s your life! If you don’t know Him, you don’t have life. But if you know Him, and continue in Him, you will have life and life eternal.

So, “My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.”

In continuation of that Proverbs 3 from verse 21-22 that says:

Verse 21:“My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:”

Verse 22: “So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.”

Verse 23 it says this: “Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.”

You see, when you have found wisdom and discretion; when you have found Christ, because the fear of God, that’s the beginning of wisdom; and Christ the wisdom of God and the power of God; when you remain in Him and walk in Him, walking in the wisdom of God, it says:

“Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely,” When you walk in the way of the Lord, you will be safe. It says: “and thy foot shall not stumble.”

As you walk in the truth, remaining in the life of Christ; you will not stumble. There’s safety in the word of God. There’s safety in obedience to the counsel of the Almighty God.

As scripture tells us in Psalms 37 from verse 23, it says:

23: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”

24: “Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.”

When you are walking in the wisdom of God, the LORD is ordering your step. He is the one who will continue to uphold you. You will not stumble. That’s what it’s telling us there. If you find wisdom and discretion, then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

WHY?

Because:

  • The LORD is the one ordering your steps through His word. He will keep you from stumbling,

  • The word of God has been hidden in your heart, and you are walking as the LORD leads you by His word.

And as you are walking in the wisdom of God, Psalm 91 from verse 11, it says:

“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”

Verse 12: “They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.”

You will not stumble, because you have made the LORD your dwelling place. You are walking in the counsel of the LORD. The LORD will not allow you to stumble. And because you are walking in the counsel of the LORD, you are walking uprightly!

The Scripture says:

“He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.”

So, you are walking in obedience to the counsel of the LORD, you are walking uprightly. I desire you to keep walking uprightly, “then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.”

That’s why if you have found wisdom and discretion, He will keep you. If you have found Christ: remain in Him, abide in Him; for that’s the wisdom of God, and it’s the power of God.

And as you remain walking in the counsel of the LORD, Psalm 121 tells us in verse 3:

“He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.”

Verse 8, it says:

“The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

He’s encouraging us in that Proverbs chapter 3 from verse 21:

“My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:”

Verse 22: “So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.”

Verse 23: “Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.”

And as you do this; remain blessed in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
